A. Alisaffi

A. Alisaffi was a stamp forger from Constantinople known for his forgeries of the Small and Large Hermes Head stamps of Greece. Operating originally in Paris, his attempts to sell the forgeries in Athens were reported to the police by a stamp dealer, but he subsequently received a permit to sell the stamps as they were no longer the current issues of Greece. Over 30 different types are known, including imitations of both the Paris and Athens prints.〔Tyler, Varro E. (1991) ''Philatelic Forgers: Their Lives and Works''. Revised edn. Sidney, Ohio: Linn's Stamp News, Amos Press, pp. 2-3.〕
The forgeries are well known to specialists in Greek philately and were amongst those discussed in the work of Walter Dorning Beckton.
